Redecorating a room can be a fantastic undertaking and can help turn a space from drab to fab in the blink of an eye. However, you need to make sure that you go about the renovation the right way. Here are some things you may not have thought about when trying to renovate your home.
Amount of supply
You need to make sure that you have the right number of supplies for the room. You can use a laminate flooring calculator to find out how much you need to buy, you can measure walls for wallpaper and try to figure out the amount of paint you’ll need.
Whatever you do, you need to make sure you have enough supplies because you don’t want to run out halfway through! Never buy what you need because you will always need a few extra. Let’s take that laminate flooring as an example, the laminate flooring calculator will tell you what you need to buy. If you try to shop based on your floor area, you won’t get enough.
Part of the beauty of laminate flooring comes from aligning the planks in different ways, and this often requires you to cut the planks to different lengths. While there may be things you can reuse later in the pattern, there will be things you can’t. Don’t end up with piles of unusable wood and floors that need to be filled – buy the right amount the first time!
Furniture storage
If you have the luxury of getting into a property and painting before any furniture arrives, you can skip this step. However, if you’re considering redecorating a room in a home you’ve lived in for a while, chances are the room will be full of furniture and accessories that won’t disappear just because you want to redecorate.
You need to think carefully about where you are going to store these items of furniture. It may be easier to pack up some things and move smaller items to other rooms then drag larger items to the center of the room. This is a great option if you want to focus on the wall.
However, this obviously doesn’t work if you want to replace the floors, like in the laminate flooring scenario we mentioned above. In this case, you have to completely empty the room and find space for all your furniture in the rest of your house, possibly meaning that some nice big pieces can block other rooms or your hall.
the time
How much time do you have for the project, or how much time are you willing to spend on it? If you are taking time off work or are outside of your normal schedule, you need to make sure you pace yourself properly so that your project comes in on time and to the standards you want to see.
If you’re working on projects around your normal work hours, it can be very different and difficult to balance. Not everyone wants to get home from work and start their WIP after a long day of work.
Extending a project in this way may take you a lot longer, but it may mean you can approach it at a pace you feel comfortable with. Just make sure you commit to decorating so you don’t end up with your furniture and belongings scattered for months!
These are three key areas that you need to consider when planning your remodeling. Unfortunately, it can be all too easy to only envision the end product and overlook the work it will take to get there. You need to make sure you are fully aware of the work it will take to deliver the work you envision, but doing so can give you a space you will always be extremely proud of.
