Gershkovich was sentenced on July 19 to 16 years in jail on prices of espionage whereas on a reporting project for the WSJ in Russia. Whelan was additionally convicted of espionage and is serving his 16-year sentence as of 2018. America maintained that each allegations have been unfounded.
