“There are such a lot of transplants in Atlanta, once they discover a piece of dwelling, it is welcome,” stated Atlanta restaurant proprietor and Philadelphia native Michael Lowe. He talks about his new restaurant enterprise, Niki’s Undefeated. This Metropolis of Brotherly Love opened in late summer season in Tucker and sits on Primary Road between the prepare tracks and the highschool.
The subway-tiled entrance counter, eight-seater bar and open kitchen have the pleasant bustle of a nook takeout store and sports-fan hangout. The crowded spot has 5 strategically positioned TVs throughout Eagles video games, so it is at all times sport time.
On this ardour venture, Lowe (raised in North Philly) joined his buddy Walt Gebelin (who grew up in Camden, South Jersey, close to Philadelphia). Fellow Northeasterner and kitchen supervisor Russ Lamlin oversees a menu with genuine drippings and cheesesteak choices. I ordered the Cheesesteak “Whiz Wit” (cheese whiz and onion) on a plain lisieur roll (from a well-known bakery in New Jersey). That first got here the deeply flavorful reduce rib-eye steak with toasty bites; melted cheddar-style cheese, gooey and superb; And the candy fried onions turned out to translucent perfection. There are hoagies galore, beginning with battered Italian with fillings and oil-and-vinegar dressing. For a fried hen cutlet sandwich, Gebelin favors the “underrated” Nick Foles, which options broccoli rabe, sharp provolone, roasted pink peppers and balsamic. For dessert there’s water, or “picket,” ice; Lowe prefers cherry, for its nostalgia issue. Philly Salted Caramel Pretzel and Butterscotch Vanilla are the winners on the Basset’s Ice Cream taste checklist. And the superb pistachio cake with ricotta cream filling is to not be missed. I wished one other slice of all the things, not simply cake.
