House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCall (R-TX) said during an interview over the weekend that it was important for Republicans to pass legislation to provide additional military aid to Ukraine because it would be more disastrous for the West than Biden’s disaster in Afghanistan. .
McCall made the comments during an interview Sunday on ABC News’ “This Week” while talking about the legislation the House passed late last week.
“The people of Israel, the people of Ukraine, and the people of Taiwan and our NATO allies now know that America is back,” he said. “We lead the free world as Ronald Reagan did and Reagan brought down the Soviet Union for God’s sake. The eyes of the world are watching and our adversaries are watching, and history is watching. And this is what I keep saying to my colleagues, do you want to be Chamberlain or Churchill? Because that’s the moment we’re in.”
“I grew up in the Cold War, and I look at the whole thing differently,” he continued. “I think if we capitulate on Ukraine like we did in Afghanistan, which was a debacle, is America going to be stronger or weaker? I would say weak, and then Putin will invade Moldova – this is not Article 5 – Georgia, he will threaten the Baltics. We cannot shrink from this responsibility.”
He said the world could have saved so much “a lot of blood and treasure” if the Allies had stopped Adolf Hitler after Nazi Germany invaded Poland.
“I think we’re at a similar moment in history now,” he added.
